Ching - Cherng Sun received his BS in electrophysics from National Chiao Tung University in 1988 and his Ph.D. in Optical Sciences, from National Central University, in Jan. 1993. In 1996, he joined the faculty of National Central University, Taiwan, and served as an associate professor at the Institute of Optical Sciences. He has become a full professor since 2002. He served as the director of the Innovation and Incubation Center in 2007
In the service of optics community, Prof. Sun was as the chairman of the SPIE Taiwan Chapter in 2002 and 2003. Since 2007, he has served as the Board of Director of the Optical Engineering Society of Taiwan, Taiwan Information Storage Industry Association and Taiwan Illumination Society. He was a Guest Editor of Optical Engineering, is currently an editor of Journal of Holography and Speckles, an associated editor of Applied Optics and one of the Chief Editors in a new journal entitled Journal of Solid - state Lighting by Springer.
Prof. Sun was presented Optical Technology Contribution Award of the Optical Engineering Society of the Republic of China in 2006, the Industry Contribution Award for University by the Ministry of Economic Affair in 2009, the awards for Outstanding Technology to Industry, and the Outstanding Research Award by the National Science Council in 2009, the Outstanding Research Award by Taiwan Information Storage Association in 2012. He is currently a Fellow of the International Society of Optical Engineering (SPIE) and Optical Society of America (OSA), a member of Taiwan Photonics Society, Taiwan Information Storage Industry Association and Taiwan Illumination Society.
