THz science and technology have been considered as a potential candidate for the next sixth-generation
(6G) wireless communication systems to supply higher than 100 Gb/s communication capability enabled by
the availability of broad spectrums at THz frequencies. They can also be employed for sensing applications,
such as non-invasive biomedical imaging, detection of concealed weapons and explosives, and
semiconductor wafer inspection. As compared with an optical approach, THz electronics can provide the
advantages of low cost, compactness, high integration, and high yield for mass production. In this talk, the
design challenges of THz electronics using CMOS technologies for THz sensing and communication
applications will be introduced. The state-of-the-art THz CMOS devices, circuits, and transceiver
architectures developed in my lab will be presented.
